Disney Jazz Volume 1: Everybody Wants To Be A Cat

Disney Jazz Volume 1: Everybody Wants To Be A Cat: "

Walt Disney Records has released a new album, Jazz Volume 1: Everybody Wants To Be A Cat. The album is a compilation of newly recorded songs that are based on some of our favorite classic Disney melodies. The album is part of Disney’s Pearl Series.

There are 13 songs on the album, which was produced by Jason Olaine and engineered by Joe Ferla. Brian Malouf served as executive producer and Matt Fitz-Henry served as associate producer. Jason said about the album coming together:

I wanted to get a group of people together who would reresent the many styles of jazz, such as getting The Bad Plus for an adventurous take, Regina Carter for a world music-oriented rendering and Joshua Redman for a well-rounded sound. We wanted to get the breadth and depth of what jazz is, as well as represent the generations of players, ranging from Dave Brubeck, who recorded a full album of Disney music, ‘Dave Digs Disney,’ in 1957, to Nikki Yanofsky, who’s still a teenager.

Below is the tracklisting for Disney Jazz Volume 1: Everybody Wants To Be A Cat:

1. Ev’rybody Wants To Be A Cat by Roy Hargrove

2. Chim Chim Cher-ee by Esperanza Spalding

3. Some Day My Prince Will Come by Dave Brubeck

4. Find Yourself by Regina Carter

5. You’ve Got A Friend In Me by Joshua Redman

6. He’s A Tramp by Dianne Reeves

7. Feed The Birds (Tuppence A Bag) by Kurt Rosenwinkel

8. Gaston by The Bad Plus

9. Alice In Wonderland by Roberta Gambarini with The Dave Brubeck Trio

10. The Bare Necessities by Alfredo Rodriguez

11. It’s A Small World by Nikki Yanofsky

12. Belle by Gilad Hekselman

13. Circle Of Life by Mark Rapp

We’ve listened to the album and think it is a great compilation for anyone that just can’t get enough jazz! It’s fun to be able to listen to the music and tell which Disney song each track is based off of, but still have every track be so different that it is its own unique song apart from the classic Disney tracks. While each song is influenced by jazz, they are all different and individual.

If you listen to Disney Jazz Volume 1: Everybody Wants To Be A Cat, be sure to let us know what you think!
